Moving forward
The transition into ‘Reception’ represents a major step in a child’s life and we are mindful of the significance of this moment for our older pre-schoolers and their parents. The beauty of our setting means that the reception children and pre-schoolers already work closely together, which allows the reception children to model good behaviour for learning. The pre-schoolers know the expectations and routines before starting school and therefore transition very easily.
Here are some of the ways in which we support our transition:
- We practice getting dressed into school uniform and talk about why people wear uniforms in their professions
- We have set up a highly effective buddy system so that the children are paired with older pupils at the school who seek them out and welcome them in the playground and ensure that they are happy
- In the Summer term, the pre-schoolers have the opportunity to join in with reception lessons.
